Computer Project: "Double Trouble Book"... no due date has been given yet!  (See instructions in binder)
This is a "map skills" project.  Students will insert images on each of the 8 pages.  The instructions say 3-7 pages, but that has been reduced to 2-7. Our focus is on computer skills first, while learning great knowledge.  (Again, if you don't have your jumpdrive in school, you will have to make that time up at home, completing what we did in class.)  We also have a map song we sing.
Social Studies book ...H12-H20  read and take notes to use in your presentation.  Here are additional notes that we took:  T-note style or bullet style

*airway

* map of pipes (city)

*agriculture maps (where crops are grown, forest also)

*marine map: show boaters where rocks, reef, or sandbars are hiding

*roadmap

*subway (big cities-transportation)

GPS: will guide us to the right road

Global Positioning System: it reads the map for

Grids: lines on a map, with letters and numbers that guide you to the location you’re looking for…like E2 or D6.

Longitude: imaginary lines on the earth that run up and down …north and south …these lines meet at the poles. (divide the east and west hemisphere)

Legends use color and symbols (drawing or sign that stands for something)

Math: is the packet finished; are you studying facts for speed and accuracy. Are your T-Notes and Drawings done for Ch. 7 on geometry?

Spelling: Rainbow words

Science: Stone project: due March 21

Literacy: Plot Structure:  be reading and collecting details (If  you don't collect details as you go, your project will show this. You need to write small and be detailed. I am demonstrating this with Guided Reading, Guided Note Taking, and Guided Writing instructions in class.)  LFD (Listening and Following Directions is essential)
30 minutes of reading per day for these 7 days of the month are required and signed.

Religion: Lenten activities, discussions, and prayer
Saint report is due next week and needs to be added to Saint presentation in progress.

Color your  Stations of the Cross!

Did you send the slip regarding "singing for the F-M Food Pantry at Holy Spirit: March 6 @ 6:30???

We practiced math problems...subtracting with borrowing 3 and 4 digit; multiplication of 3 digit times 2 digits, dividing the short cut method or long division (see binder) .PRACTICE AT HOME!!!

Planners are not near where they need to be as far as students filling them in on their own! Students need to improve on adding all details daily by looking at the board or the web at home and have these filled in. Next year they need to do this without the blog and if this is not a habit, this will be concerning.

Pompeii ...facts, details, and song

30 minutes of reading nightly and signed to go on field trip next week...Reading is a must!

Send your note in if you can attend our concert on March 6th!

We're reading Number The Stars as a class and collecting details to fill into a "plot structure" format.  This assists the students to learn how to think as they read a book themselves...ask your child to see their Plot Structure that is due next week....This is to include "details, descriptions, and dynamite facts". (3-D)  The students who are telling me they're done, are not including these things. You have a week to finish reading, take down details as you read, and plug them into your project. Use it wisely and do a great job.

Wednesday

Literacy:
We worked on learning to write historical fiction...this is fiction- but you write it as a story using words that ignite the 5 senses and also to hear your heart (using "stone statues"...we did this twice)

Example:
Brick after brick, droplets of sweat poured from my brows as I continued, to labor, with hundreds of others, suffering in the hot scorching sun.  Mile after mile, this division from the world seemed to linger through eternity, as life after life was wasted, working on what seemed to be a futile effort.
Use: dollar words; words to show things you see, hear, touch, feel, and even taste
Include beautiful words...adjectives, great verbs, and awesome adverbs
This is an example of a historical fiction exert that will begin a Great Wall of China exposition.

We took Math fluency assessments: keep studying...today's time allowed 4:30 for 100 problems and will go down to 4:00.

Saint reports (the second one) are due next week.  They need to be added to the "saint presentation".

Plot Structure assignments: Students need to finish reading their books (collect details for their assignment as they go)  This is a book report of sorts...the story needs to be read!!!!  There are some people attempting to do this without reading it! Due March 2.

Math: packet
Ch. 7 notes: definitions and drawings ...T-Note style
Learned a new method to do the short version of long division

Reading About Cultures: 28-34 S.S.
Africa: 27-30; 124-125

It's very important that your child is reading daily!  When they read to me, their progress (or lack of) really shows. Fluency, comprehension, vocabulary are all affected!!

We also read through the compound words lists in our binders. Students who do not have their binders here, or who don't put their papers into their binder and have them lost in space,  need to stay in at recess!  These are an essential learning tool!

More on parables: Story-activity book p. 67 ...wrote about how the mustard seed is like God's kingdom

Msgr. Wald also spoke with the students about preparing for Ash  Wednesday.  fasting...praying...and alms giving!  The alms giving tied right in with doing this for our parents when told or on our own...cursive writing mailbox!  He wants these things to become habits of goodness for the children, and not only a one time event.
